Midday Wednesday saw the start of Kurtis Loftus’ attempt at setting the world’s record for longest surf session. Tents and tables were set up under cloudy skies and supporters turned out to cheer Kurtis on. This world record attempt was to help raise funds for the 26.2 with Donna The National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer…more information can be found at marathonsurfer.com.
You wouldn’t believe the number of photographers that turned out during the event. Cameras everywhere.
The wonderful folks at Auqa East provided another tent for the event.
To avoid crowds, the attempt took place in front of the historic Life Guard Station in Jacksonville Beach. The life guards were incredibly helpful and even posted a couple of their own to keep watch throughout the day and night.
Before Kurtis entered the water, a prayer was said.
And he’s in.
Surfers entered and left the water almost every hour to spend time in the line up with Kurtis. From start to finish, I don’t think there was a time that he was alone in the ocean.
