The End of the World

May 25, 2015 | NYC, Travel

This is the closest I will ever get to summering in the Hamptons.

And it’s all thanks to the wonderful and crazy talented team at Adjective & Co. We spent the Memorial Day weekend in Montauk, New York to celebrate the inaugural issue of Whalebone Magazine. It’s a source of good and creative content provided via a beautifully designed website and printed publication. The primary focus is the culture and lifestyle of the East End (literally the east end of Long Island).

With that in our sights, the majority of the Adjective family headed north.

My trip began with a 6:00 AM flight out of Jacksonville. Including the hour metro ride from JFK into Manhattan, I arrived in the city by 10:00 AM and enjoyed brunch shortly after that with Brian and Brittany. In our tasty style of vacation, BE and I visited Dominique Ansel Bakery as a precursor to the champagne brunch special at the Whynot Bistro in the West Village.

I have a feeling that I chose the perfect dish for a Friday morning brunch in Manhattan. A light Belgian waffle topped with fresh summer berries and a healthy portion of chocolate mousse. Can I say #onfleek here? I need more of this in my life.

Since this is the West Village, are these dogs or doges? (Is that allowed to be plural?)

The next leg of the trip took us to Penn Station. A last minute misunderstanding of the Long Island Rail Road schedule for Montauk left us waiting for an extra hour in an amply crowded (and smelly) waiting area. We then rushed to the track not realizing it was now a peak hour train. It was a little bit of madness as families and hundreds of millennials ran to the track, pushing for seats. We weren’t quick enough and found ourselves standing for most of the ride until the first stop in the Westhampton. Between the fact it was non-stop express train (aptly named the Cannonball) and the bottle of Woodford I brought along, we didn’t suffer too much.

After hurrying to wait more than once, we finally made it to the Beach Plum Resort off of Old Montauk Road. The hotel location was beyond what I expected, facing out over the Atlantic with a simply beautiful view.

Early Saturday was pretty open for most of the team. We walked into town (not even a full mile) to get breakfast at Goldberg’s and spent most of the day exploring before the launch party at Sole East. Sadly, I don’t have photos of the party … my camera wouldn’t fit into my dress. Anyhow, my focus was elsewhere during the event. The party was awesome with good people and food … and a fire … with s’mores.

Kingsley and Austin being … Kingsley and Austin.

Sunday was another chill day, the perfect follow up to a crazy but fun night with the folks at Whalebone and the Adjective & Co crew. After a quick and delicious bite at John’s Pancake House, (can you say hot apple crêpes?), a few of us stopped by the original Whalebone Creative store. They have some great designs and products … as well as a really great location by Fort Pond Bay.

From there, we made our way back into town. I grabbed a cappuccino at Left Hand (which was ridiculously good) and then joined the group again as we met up with Pat. As the editor for Whalebone Magazine and also a native of the Montauk area, he made for the perfect tour guide, taking us to see the Montauk Point Lighthouse, as well as a walk along the cliffs in the Camp Hero State Park area.

I’m helping Austin build his modeling portfolio. Don’t tell him though. It’s a surprise.

A lot of rocks were thrown out over the cliffs. Not sure why … but apparently it’s a thing to do when standing on cliffs.

Another pair of cute dogs! And I can say dogs because they’re in Montauk and all that pretentiousness gets to stay in Manhattan.

Monday proved to be the warmest day of the trip, making for a very enjoyable walk in town for breakfast and coffee. I opted to take a later train than most of the team, allowing for a little more leisure time in Montauk. And who wouldn’t want more time in The End with views like this?

So thanks Adjective & Co for making this weekend awesome. Thanks Montauk for being beautiful. And thanks to Noel at Liar’s Saloon for hooking us up like locals. Stay classy.
