On the way from the brickmaker’s village, Joseph took us to the first school that he started. This school had begun under a tree, and if you were curious, it’s the tree referenced in the title of the non-profit organization, The Joshua Tree. The school that took place here captivated Joshua, and afterward, his parents. Now it’s a symbol of hope for the kids here and for what Joseph and The Joshua Tree hope to do.

Apparently, we were the first group of westerners that these villagers had seen. And they stared. The whole time. And they took pictures of us.

Which considering the thousands I took is only fair.
